Beetles belong to the order Coleoptera which makes up the largest order in all of the animal kingdom. From what is recognized today, about 350,000 different species make up the order with roughly 25,000 residing in North America. Beetles range widely in their general shapes, mouth parts, shells, coloring, habitats, and diets making for one extremely varied and rather indepth identification process. The pages and images contained within this site attempt to help identify both major and minor beetle types found throughout the United States.
